Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center was one of 14 nonprofit organizations in the state to participate in the Harry &Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc.’s annual “Christmas in September” luncheon Sept. 27 in Honolulu.
“There are always disagreements, problems and conflict in everybody’s lives, but do you have the tools to solve them? This is where Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center helps out,” said foundation staff member Kathie Yamashiro.
Yamashiro presented Ku‘ikahi Executive Director Julie Mitchell with a check for $10,000, and a client representative shared how mediation changed his life for the better.
“We were extremely grateful to be selected by Kathie for this honor,” Mitchell said. “The Weinberg Foundation’s generous contribution supports much-needed conflict resolution programs for low-income individuals.”
Since 1990, the Harry &Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has provided more than $312 million in grants to more than 700 Hawaii nonprofit organizations assisting the poor and needy.
Ku‘ikahi’s mediation services are provided on an affordable sliding scale, with no one turned away for lack of funds. For more information, call 935-7844 or visit www.hawaiimediation.org.
